While some wearable electronics devices offer healthcare functions, such as blood pressure and heart rate monitoring, as key selling points, these functions are very often not reliable, mainly due to the limitation of the sensing and other technologies in these devices. Based on an analysis on the relevant patents and interviews with key players and researchers in the wearable electronics fields, this report will review the key innovative technologies to bring the healthcare functions to the wearable electronics, and identify the future trends, including which types of new healthcare functions are likely to be adopted by wearable electronics devices, and realized by what technologies. A list of the key relevant technology developers will also be provided.
